Welcome to Friends of St. Leonards PTA

Welcome to St. Leonard’s PTA or parent teacher association. This information is designed to let you know what a PTA is, who The Friend’s of St. Leonard’s are, what we do, why we do it and how you can get involved if you would like to.

What do PTAs do?

A PTA is a Parent Teacher Association, an organisation with a mission to make the school a better place for children to learn. St Leonard’s PTA brings together parents, teachers and children to raise funds and strengthen the school community. Money raised is usually spent on things that the school budget does not cover.

Who are St. Leonard’s PTA?

Our PTA Committee consists of the Head, Joint Deputy Heads, Joint Secretaries and Treasurer. To support these roles, we have a PTA Planning Team, which consists of representatives (Class Reps) from each class. We also have a host of regular volunteers who support our fundraising events programme. We are a close team who work amazingly well together.

How do I join my children’s school’s PTA?

You automatically become a member of the PTA simply by being a parent or carer at St. Leonards. If you would like to take a more active role and find out more about PTA volunteering opportunities then you can attend a PTA meeting, we hold at least one every half term. You could speak to one of your class representatives.

Why Should I join the PTA?

There are many reasons why you should join your PTA. From making new friends and getting to know the school environment, through to helping raise much needed funds and making a difference to the children and school community. All of these things help you grow in confidence as a parent and it feels good to know you are making a difference for your children and for generations to come.

‘’I personally joined St Leonard’s PTA because as a first time mom in a country with a different school system, I needed a place where I could learn the system and find out more information term by term to better support my child's needs as he navigates his academic journey. It’s also a great way of being part of a community where you know we all share a common goal of wanting the best for our kids and facilitating that to the best of our abilities as a team brings a lot of fulfilment.’’

‘’The PTA does so much to provide the school with valuable resources, such as books and PE equipment. I wanted to see what I could do to help & get to know some other parents too’’

What will be expected of me if I join the PTA?

There is no expectation on any parent volunteer, any amount of time you can give to the PTA will always be well received. There are a variety of ways you can get involved, from engaging with social media activity, attending PTA meetings through to volunteering at events or coordinating events. Even donating preloved items, raffle prizes or suggesting brilliant ideas are ways of getting involved. There seems to be a myth that if you get involved with your PTA you will never be able to escape! We make it clear that parents can come to our meetings to just listen and learn, or they can take a more active role if they want to, there are no set expectations.

What Activities do St. Leonards PTA Organise?

We organise a number of events, some that make money and some that support community building. Last year we ran the following....

  • A school disco for the children.

  • Personalised Christmas Cards and gifts designed by the Children. Sold to parents to raise money.

  • We sold Christmas trees to parents and members of the public.

  • A Winter Fair with games, food, drinks, stalls, a raffle and an auction.

  • Mother’s Day card materials were donated by the PTA for all children to make a card for the special woman in their life.

  • We ran an information session for Y4, Y5, and Y6 about the process of applying to secondary school.

  • A meet and greet for all new reception and nursery children and their families to get to know each other.

  • Father’s Day card materials were donated for all children to make a card.

  • An adult’s darts night, fully funded by the PTA.

  • A clothing for cash event. Families donated second-hand clothes to raise money.

  • A Summer Fair with bouncy castle, glitter tattoos, BBQ, games stall, raffle and lots more.

  • A Christmas colouring competition for all the children.

  • Santa’s Grotto, the children could meet Santa and receive a gift for him.

  • After school sales days where we sell second hand uniform, cakes, books, hotdogs, hot chocolate and more.

  • St. Leonard’s Got Talent. Every year we run a free to enter talent

show for the children to participate in and our families to watch.

  • St Leonard’s Foosball Tournament. A free to enter competition for the children.

  • A year 6 leavers event and party at Tooting Lido.

How Much Money Does St. Leonards PTA Make?

Last year the PTA brought in £10,088.29

What is the Money Spent on?

We donated £3991.30 to buy phonics scheme books for the early years department.

Every year we donate £3 per child per term towards subsidising class trips. This came to £3366. Last year we helped fund trips to The Golden Hinde, Battersea Park Zoo, The Chocolate Museum, The Rose Theatre, The Year 6 residential trip, and much more.

We gave the school £2000 to buy new playground equipment. Providing a number of new items for the children like balls, hoops, skipping ropes, board games and much more.

We donated £80.82 to providing every child with the materials needed to make a card for Mothers and Fathers day.

What Will My PTA Donations be Spent on This Year?

This year on top of the school trip donations that we make every year, we are hoping to make donations towards the schools IT department and more playground equipment, plus continuing to fund other non-profit events that bring the community together like our adult events. We have already donated £150 towards flowers bulbs for every child.
